Brighton Cookbook Club - December 2013

RESERVE YOUR PLACE AND PLAN YOUR DISH HERE!

This month we've decided to give people the option of cooking anything from the luscious queen of the kitchen, Nigella Lawson.

If you don't already own any Nigella books, you can find them on Amazon and at other booksellers, and they're also available from Brighton libraries. She also has many recipes available online.

Ooh, Yay! Supper Club - Dia de Independencia de México

Above: my award-winning photo, third in the Victoria and Albert Museum MexFest photo competition. Yes, I like to boast.

In belated celebration of Mexican Independence Day, I'll be hosting a Mexican feast! As this is a soft opening I'll be running this first attempt at about a third of what usual dinners would be.

Menú

  • Welcome margarita
  • Antojitos: chapulines, chicharrones and guacamole
  • Soup: roast tomato with totopos
  • Fish: tamarind salmon with cucumber, beetroot, chilli and ricotta salad
  • Main: pork pibil with rice and tortillas
  • Dessert: torta de tres leches with chilli mango
  • Después: raspberry and tequila nieve with chilli chocolates

Please let me know any dietary requirements when booking using the box in the form thingy.

Oh yes, and it's a bring your own booze arrangement. So bring your own booze.

Septmember - Brighton Cookbook Club

What book will we be cooking from?

This month we've decided to go with one of the most popular cookbooks in the country (so we're sure lots of you will already have this at home) - The Kitchen Diaries by Nigel Slater (that's Volume 1).

If you don't already own a copy, you can buy the book on Amazon and from other booksellers, and it's also available from Brighton libraries

What we're each cooking this month - so there's no crossover...

Drop us an email to let us know what you're planning!

  • Anna - Stilton, onion and potato pie
  • Jon - Salmon and dill fishcakes with hovmästarsås
  • David - Honey mustard chicken wings and salad
  • Tom - Pork burgers with lime leaves and coriander
  • Jessica - Plum cake

Looking for inspiration? How about some of these?

  • Pork burgers with lime leaves and coriander (ooh, taken!)
  • Five-spice quail (maybe with a pumpkin-based side?)
  • Peach and blueberry soured cream cobbler (we'd love some puddings too!)

Have a copy of the book you're happy to lend? Let us know and we'll put your name and contact details here:
